Eight years self-trained urban athlete and dancer. Starting from zero fitness and a love of dance, Iona made use of the local green space and free/budget facilities in Hackney to get fit and strong, little by little. It became a journey of movement, fitness and strength, learning about the external (local environment) and internal (psychology) to grow in mind and body. The hard-faced discipline needed to self-motivate and train and get knocked down and get back up is a strength she shares in her teaching.
To fuel the creativity on the dance floor, Iona trains full time around PT sessions in weight training, calisthenics and bar work, gymnastics, inversions, suspension training, running, swimming and yoga & meditation. And spends the weekends dancing, playing and battling on the club dance floors, testing her fitness and power within the creativity and expression of dance.
She found training outside was calming, uplifting and refreshing and helped deal with SAD, insomnia, depression etc! Webbing together outdoor training with indoor activities (capoeira, boxing, dancing, weight training, swimming) she found the perfect balance for all round fitness and health.
