About
My name is Andy McNeil and I am the creator and Director of Macks Fitness. I have always had an interest in sport and fitness, back to playing Yorkshire league level squash when I was 16 years old, and taking part in the Great North run on multiple occasions.
Ironically, it was an injury that first led me to resume my interest in fitness and exercise. I was doing a pretty sedentary job at the time, and got a scoliosis of the spine, also known as a bulging disc.
This in turn led to a period of rehabilitation using core strengthening exercises that a physiotherapist advised and a love affair with the now widely acclaimed Joseph Pilates art of Contrology (now known as Pilates) was born.
I have always believed that looking after one’s physical health is of up-most importance. Not only for the bodily reasons but also the mental and social ones.
Whether it be a circuit class outdoors or an indoor beginners’ Pilates class, the aim is to get fit and healthy, strong and supple, but also to enjoy doing it! I believe that exercise is a social occasion, but that hard work goes hand in hand with it!
