FAQ
1. Are you an older adult specialist at Llanishen Leisure Centre?
Yes. I'm Alex Orlov, the older adult specialist personal trainer based at Llanishen Leisure Centre. I only train adults 60+. My work is balance & falls prevention, strength for everyday life like stairs and shopping, and rehab after knee and hip replacements. 70/70 five-star reviews on YOUR Personal Training, UK PT of the Month March 2024.
2. I'm 70 and worried about my balance and falling. Can you help?
Yes - that's my main work. At Llanishen I run 30 mins sessions for 60+. We do 3 simple checks - sit-to-stand strength, single-leg balance, and tandem walk - then a tailored plan with chair-friendly exercises you can also do at home. No jumping, no getting on the floor unless you want to. Quiet space, at your pace.
3. I've had a knee or hip replacement - can I still do personal training?
Yes, I have extensive experience with clients after knee and hip replacements, including two replacements. Bethan, one of my clients at Llanishen, said: "I've just had two knee replacements... I've already noticed a big improvement in my strength and confidence." We work on getting stronger for stairs, getting out of a chair, walking with confidence, always with your physio/surgeon guidance.
4. I don't like gyms. Is your training suitable for me?
Yes. Most of my clients at Llanishen felt the same before. We train in a quieter corner of Llanishen Leisure Centre, not in the main weights area. We use chairs, bands, light weights - no intimidating machines. Nigel, 70, said: "I am 70 years old... After 10 sessions, I now know how to do things properly!" You don't need to be fit to start, you start to get fit.
